2023 Advances in Precision Medicine Seminar Series

"Genetic Analysis at Scale"

Benjamin Neale, PhD
Director, Genomics of Public Health Initiative, Analytic and Translational Genetics Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital
Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School
Director, Genetics, Stanley Center for Psychiatric Disease, Broad Institute
Co-Director, Medical and Population Genetics, Broad Institute

The emergence of biobanks such as the UK Biobank with rich electronic health information coupled with the collection of genomic information present an opportunity to systematically investigate the genetic contribution to every human disease. Dr. Neale will describe their efforts to understand how genetics shape differences in risk for human health outcomes in such biobanks. Further, Dr. Neale will describe in greater detail the efforts of the Stanley Center to pursue genetic discovery of a single illness - schizophrenia - and the challenges before us in interpreting the emerging genetic associations. This event is hosted as part of the monthly seminar series featuring leaders in precision medicine from across the nation. Presented by the Precision Medicine Resource of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.  This event is supported in part by a gift from Pfizer to Columbia.
